Roulette Bets
There are several ways to bet when playing roulette. Different bets payoff different amounts of money, and of course, the higher the payoff, the less likely that bet is to win. For those of you knew to the game we’ve compiled a list of the different possible bets you can make, along with the payoffs and odds of that bet hitting.
The Straight Bet
The straight bet is very straight forward. You simply bet directly on any number on the board you think with hit in the next roll. If the roulette ball lands on that number, you win. If the ball lands on any other number, you lose. The payoff for this bet is 35 to 1, so if you bet a single dollar on any straight bet and win, you win $35.
The Split Bet
The split bet is betting on any two numbers next to each other. In order to make a split bet you must place you chips on the line dividing the two numbers on the board. If either one of those two numbers hits on the next spin, you win. The payoff for this bet is 17 to 1, so if you bet a single dollar and win, you win $17.
Street Bet
Making a street bet is when you bet on any three numbers next to each other on the board. If any one of those three numbers hit, you win. The payoff for a street bet is 11 to 1, so bet a dollar a win, win $11.
Square Bet
The square bet is when you bet on any 4 numbers connected on the betting board. This bet is made by placing your chips on the corner connecting the four numbers on the betting board. If any of the four numbers hit you win. The payoff for the Square bet is 8 to 1. So bet a dollar and win, win $8
The Five Number Bet
There is only one place on the board you can make a five numbered bet. It is at the top of the betting board, and the five numbers involved in the five number bet are 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. This bet can only be made when playing on an American roulette table because the European roulette table does not have a 00. The payoff for this bet is 6 to 1 – bet a dollar, win $6.
Outside Bets
The outside bets are any bet on the outside of the betting grid. These are the bets that can be found closest to the player on the betting board. The following is a list of all outside bets:
Black
Bet on any black number hitting in the next roll. The payoff is even money.
Red
This works the same as betting on black, except you are betting on any red number hitting in the next roll. Again, the payoff is even money.
Even
An even bet is betting that any even number with hit on the next roll, i.e. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, ect. The payoff is even money.
Odd
This is betting that any odd number will hit on the next roll, i.e. 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, ect. The payoff is even money.
High Bet
The high bet is betting that any of the highest numbers on the board will hit. This covers half the board, so you’re betting on the numbers 19 though 36. The payoff for winning this bet is even money.
Low Bet
The low bet is exactly the opposite of the high bet. You’re betting on any of the lowest numbers on the board 1 through 18. The payoff is even money.
The Dozen Bet
There are three dozen bets, 1 -12, 13 -24, and 25 -36. Winning any one of these bets pays off 2 to 1. So if you bet a dollar, you win $2 plus your original dollar back.
Column Bet
This bet is betting on any column on the betting board. There are 12 numbers in each column, so the odds and payoff is exactly the same as the dozen bet – 2 to 1.
